SEDATION

Most procedures at Spradley Endodontics are done using only local anesthesia (typical dental numbing injection) and no procedure requires sedation. We do provide two solutions for patient comfort at your request. Both techniques have minimal to no risks, and of course appropriate monitoring system are used.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as laughing gas, this helps a patient relax and relieves anxiety. The patient breathes the gas, which is mixed with oxygen, through their nose during the treatment and the effects disappear 5 minutes after the gas is turned off. It can be used at any appointment and does not require the patient to have a driver or any other special arrangements. Just let us know you are interested in using nitrous oxide when you arrive at our office.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation requires a consultation on a separate day before the patient’s treatment, and a driver is needed to take the patient home. An hour before the appointment the patient will take prescribed tablets. Once they are in the chair nitrous oxide may be given to adjust the level of sedation. The patient doesn’t sleep, but may think they are asleep and may not remember the procedure. Any other questions will be answered at your consultation.
